FOAFOA
Benefits of Membership

Regulatory / Legal Lobbying

The FOA addresses international, European and domestic regulatory policy, rules and procedures to the extent that they affect the wholesale markets/derivatives business carried on by its members. This involves the development of position papers, guidance documentation, active lobbying and individual briefings. In carrying out this function, the FOA is supported by a number of practitioner-based standing committees and working groups.

For further information on the FOA’s regulatory/legal activities, please see Regulation.

Member Briefings

The FOA holds complimentary fora, seminars and roundtables on a regular basis for member firm employees. These address topical issues via presentations and/or discussions with specialists drawn from leading law firms, consultancy firms, regulators or senior industry figures.

These meetings tend to focus primarily on legal and compliance, clearing/operations, new product launches, energy and power trading issues.

Helplines

The FOA offers its members two "helpline" services:

Compliance & Business Support

The Croner Consulting Business Support Helpline has been set up by the FOA to offer its Ordinary members complimentary telephone advice and guidance across a broad range of issues including employment and personnel, health & safety, tax and PAYE, VAT, Payroll and commercial legal matters.

The FOA offers this confidential "helpline" service whereby it will provide assistance on regulatory matters including:

  • Acting as a go-between on sensitive issues on a "no-name" basis where a member needs information or opinions from exchanges or regulators
  • Seeking specific information about regulatory/commercial constraints in dealing in or into other jurisdictions

For further information please email David Stuart or telephone +44 (0)20 7090 1340

Joint Money Laundering Steering Group Helpdesk

The FOA contributes to the Joint Money Laundering Steering Group (JMLSG) Helpdesk service, which supports the JMLSG Guidance. The service is available free of charge to FOA members.
Further details are available from the JMLSG website at www.jmlsg.org.uk.
